Standards Australia have recently released updated standards to the series of AS 4685, Playground equipment and surfacing, parts 1-6, which contain several deviations from previous versions of the Standard. The new Standards are more closely aligned with international standards. The standards aim to guide manufacturers, suppliers and designers around the requirements for playground equipment.
This online session will provide an overview of the playground standard revisions including;

Since 2002 PLAWA Regional Councillor, Mr Andrew Reedy (Play Check) has represented the Australian Industry Group on the Standards Australia committee for playground equipment (CS-005). He has been involved in the development all versions of AS 4685, as well as AS 4422:2016 (dealing with playground safety surfacing). From 2014 to 2016 Andrew chaired the Standards sub-committee responsible for the development of AS 4685.0:2017 (dealing with the development, installation, inspection, maintenance and operation of playground equipment). Andrew represents Standards Australia on the ISO (International Standards Organisation) technical committee for playgrounds (TG 83 / WG8) as an expert. He is also a member of the Standards Australia committee for Sports and Recreational Equipment (CS-101), constituted in 2018. This committee deals with Standards for outdoor exercise equipment and parkour equipment.
