PLA NSW/ACT and PLA VIC/TAS are working together with the support of the City of Melbourne and City of Glen Eira to share their lock down experiences and hopefully provide some insight and guidance. Some topics to be explored will include:

Brendan Parker, Manager Leisure Facilities, City of Melbourne
Anthony joined the City of Melbourne in March 2020 following 2 decades in senior management at the YMCA. Just in time to go into lockdown! Interesting times when you meet your team over zoom. Cathy joined the recreation team mid 2019 after 15 years with the Open Space Planning team at City of Melbourne. Her role includes management of the Active Melbourne Recreation Facilities contract with the YMCA. Brendan commenced management of the in house facilities of Melbourne City Baths and North Melbourne Recreation Centre in 2019 after several years in managerial roles with YMCA, State Sporting Association and private sporting clubs in metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria. Anthony, Brendan and Cathy will share a broad overview of challenges and decisions they faced with the extended lockdown in Melbourne in 2020, and lockdowns since. Their overview will include closing facilities, opening facilities, program and service delivery, staff redeployment, membership retention and navigating contractual agreements. |

Andrew Barden, Manager, Recreation & Open Space, Glen Eira City Council Andrew joined Glen Eira in November 2003 as Recreation Contracts & Special Project Co-ordinator following 14 years working in various roles within State Government. He has held the position of Manager Recreation & Open Space since 2016 and is passionate about local government's role in creating liveable and resilient communities. Andrew will provide an overview of Glen Eira's ongoing approach to managing and supporting community sporting clubs during Melbourne's lockdowns. |
