The redeveloped Oakleigh Recreation Centre and Caloola Reserve were officially opened in early 2021. The redevelopment to the Oakleigh Recreation Centre has transformed the existing centre into an outstanding integrated multi-purpose sports precinct, featuring:
Five new indoor basketball courts (also catering for netball and volleyball)
An improved gym and group fitness areas
Conversion of the existing stadium to a state-level gymnastics facility for the Waverley Gymnastics Club.
The project was a joint collaboration between the City of Monash, Federal and State Governments, and the Waverley Gymnastics Centre.
The Caloola Reserve site has been transformed with a multi-sport pavilion for the tennis, soccer and cricket clubs. The Council was able to manage the merger of two local tennis clubs, the Oakleigh and North Oakleigh Tennis Clubs, and has provided the new Club with 8 new courts at Caloola Reserve. The Oakleigh Tennis Club was relocated from the Oakleigh Recreation Centre site to enable the redevelopment to take place.
