Synthetic Sports Surfaces On Show: Mitchelton Football Club

PLA Queensland in partnership with our Major Region Sponsor SPORTENG and the Mitchelton Football Club, are pleased to invite our members, industry peers, sporting clubs, design professionals, construction and landscape maintenance contractors, educators, and students to our Technical Site Tour of the new synthetic field at Teralba Park, Mitchelton.

Hear from the people directly involved with delivering a synthetic sports surface

Our Technical Site Tour will feature a conversation with our expert panel including representatives from:

  • Mitchelton Football Club
  • Brisbane City Council
  • Queensland's Department of Tourism, Innovation & Sport (DTIS)

We will explore questions such as:

  • What were key issues to consider with preparing to deliver this facility?
  • What was the vision, the budget, and the project brief – including the delivery timeframe?
  • How is this facility different to others? What has been the feedback from your players and visitors using this facility?
  • How do you secure funding to support these facilities?

Following-up from our series of webinars in 2021, we will delve even deeper into understanding the provision of synthetic playing surfaces – by touring Mitchelton Football Club - to learn from the experience of the key stakeholders behind the delivery of this new facility.

Background to Mitchelton Football Club's Playing Fields

Mitchelton FC (MFC), founded in 1920, is the second oldest football club in Brisbane and boasts over 1100 members. MFC is located at Teralba Park, leased from Brisbane City Council, and managed by the club. The site features five full-sized playing fields and a number of smaller training areas and mini-fields. All of the fields are a basic soil-based construction type (although some do feature an irrigation system) and are generally characterised by heavily worn turf cover, poor aesthetics, and hard ground during prolonged dry spells. Following wet weather, the ground can turn boggy rendering the fields unplayable.
