Merry Christmas from SA/NT

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

It is that special time of the year again with Christmas looming (where did the year go?) and a good time to get a note out to you all to wish you a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. We hope you have all had a great productive year and are looking forward to the challenges in 2019. PLA SA/NT has had some changes over the year with a new Executive Officer (Allison Bretones) and three new members being welcomed onto our Regional Council (Julia Wallace, Stacey Dutton and Rick Gower). The President and Regional Council members would like to thank Allison for her dedication and ability to strengthen the role and professionalism of PLA SA/NT. It is a great pleasure to work with you Allison and your knowledge of the industry and commitment is very much appreciated.

A special thanks also to the Regional Council members for their involvement and commitment over the year. Without you we would not exist or achieve very much for our PLA members. We have created three sub groups to increase our potential outcomes and the members and focus of each group include:

  • Strategic Group: Suzanne Suter, Kevin Lowe, Alicia Clutterham and Allison Bretones
  • Professional Development Group: Amy Loechel, Julia Wallace, Stacey Dutton and Rick Gower
  • Communications and General Support: John Wilkinson, David Cooney and Andrian Wiguna (also Treasurer)

Despite Andrew Smith leaving the Regional Council to become the Chair of PLA Advisory, he has continued to be involved in our group and played a lead role in the Planning Trilogy Masterclasses held in the later part of the year. Thank you so much for that Andrew and for your past contribution to PLA SA/NT. We are working hard at building our profile and providing services to our PLA members and the wider industry. We have held a number of successful events during the year including a 'Quality Open Space' seminar and three planning masterclasses. We intend to continue to place a strong focus on professional development and our Professional Development Group has developed a Calendar of Events which we will promote in the New Year.

We are also in the process of seeking grant funding through Government departments that will assist us to provide services to the industry and we will be looking for additional sponsor opportunities in 2019 to further increase our profile and viability. We would like to thank the National sponsors that have supported us over the year including GLG GreenLife Group and Syngenta.

This year we have had meetings with the Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing the Honourable Corey Wingard, the Shadow Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Katrine Hildyard and the Minister for Environment and Water the Honourable David Speirs. We have also met and liaised with government department heads and potential industry partners including Recreation SA, Sport SA and the Local Government Recreation Forum. It has been a time of change and progression for PLA SA/NT and we will aim to continue to strengthen our role and achievements over 2019. This is consistent with the progressive nature of the National Parks and Leisure Australia organisation, with a focus on quality conferences and events, a new web site, a more progressive approach to membership and new programs and services soon to be offered.

We thank our members and sponsors for your continued loyalty and involvement in our events and services. If you are not a member of Parks and Leisure Australia we encourage you to join and become part of an exciting industry group that is committed to servicing its members and providing high standard professional development, networking opportunities and other services over 2019 and beyond. We wish you great happiness and satisfaction in your professional and personal lives and will see you in 2019.
