Skate Australia Strategy

4th December, 2019

YMCA in partnership with Skate Australia have launched the new Skateboarding Participation and Competition Strategy.

This strategy outlines the national grass roots competition pathways and how local and state governments activate skate parks under the strategy's programs and event framework.

The strategy also includes The National Programs and Events Framework which is an official development program and grass roots competition series. These programs and events are scalable, and can be delivered in local communities as small scale social enterprises across Australia.

In 2017 the YMCA entered into a formal agreement with Skate Australia, as the key delivery partner for the Australian Skateboarding and Skate Park League series.

The YMCA is backing Skate Australia's National Participation and Competition Strategy by mobilising its network of over 500 YMCAs across Australia.

YMCA Action Sports National Programs and Events Manager Nick Buskens said the Skateboarding Participation and Competition Strategy provides a strategic overview of the community impact delivered through skate.

"Together we are delivering training workshops, school programs, SPL and ASL series. Through this network we engage over 25,000 people every year in action sports programs. "The YMCA is also working with Skate Australia to developed a scalable support system and training that includes, action sports event management, child safety, OH&S reporting, skate park management and compliance protocols," he said.

If you are a local government seeking to increases your communities involvement in Active recreation, The National Programs and Events Framework will provide you with support systems, technical knowledge and process to activate and maximize social and physical participation at skate parks.
