2020 Dion Gosling, Principal Architect, Director 106 Architects

Dion created an event to be delivered during the 2020 NGV Melbourne Design Week. The discussion panel event was titled 'The influence of design - transforming an everyday public space into a thriving third place' and investigated how design might transform and shape life with the future development of community facilities. The panel included a creative mix of professionals sharing their thoughts, and building on each other's perspectives during the discussion.


Alister Clark, Bushland Projects, City of Hobart

Alister attended the International Trails Symposium in Syracuse NY in May 2019. The biennial Symposium is the only international gathering of trail enthusiasts and professionals representing all types of trail users. Following the Symposium he visited key tracks and trails (mountain bike, walking, multi-use, all access, fire trails etc.), viewed the construction context and methods, and met relevant experts in Canada and the USA.

Susan Hecker, Manager Parks and Urban Development, City of Whittlesea

Inspired by the 2018 World Urban Parks Congress held in Melbourne, Susan was looking for new ways of thinking about the planning, activation and sustainability of parks by collaborating with and learning from practitioners both inside and outside of the parks and leisure industry. She travelled to France and Belgium and met with a range of professionals who program and manage their parks to address the challenge of population growth and a changing climate. She also attended the 2019 Nature of Cities Summit in Paris to further expand strategic thinking for the future of our Cities' parks.


Timothy D'Agostino, Landscape Architect, ASPECT Studios

Tim undertook a study tour to Europe in September 2017 to investigate the development of female and young people inclusive public spaces.

Chris Munro, Recreation Strategic Projects, Officer, Mornington Shire Council

Chris undertook a study tour to Europe in March 2015 to investigate the use of ICT in parks management.


Cormac McCarthy, Open Space Coordinator, Maroondah City Council

Cormac undertook a study tour of the United Kingdom. He meet with peak parks and leisure associations in England, Scotland and Wales to investigate their function and how they work together to further the industry

Wendy Holland, Director, Communityvibe

Wendy traveled to Arizona, USA to attend an International Trials Symposium and also visited trails in Arizona and met with leaders in the trails field

Jason Summers, Manager of Parks and Open Space, City of Hume

Jason attended the International society of Arboriculture Conference in Toronto, Canada and visited a number of US cities to review the latest advances in green infrastructure and urban forestry programs.
