We are seeking a highly motivated individual to fill an essential role in the Recreation and Open Space Planning Team.

Key information about the role:

This 12 month temporary contract full time Band 6 role plays an essential part in developing Councils strategies, masterplans, polices and plans to ensure provision meets our changing community needs and contemporary standards. With extensive experience in open space planning, stakeholder consultation and deep understanding of recreation planning principles you will join a like minded team with a strong focus on delivering outcomes for the community. 

This position has direct responsibility for:

  • Development and implementation of open space and leisure planning strategies, masterplans and policies
  • Identifying current and emerging recreation and leisure trends and developing management strategies
  • Leading a range of projects relating to open space, trails and community leisure facilities using strong project management skills
  • Providing effective qualitative and quantitative research and data to inform Council's strategies, polices and plans
  • Leading community consultation and stakeholder management for projects relating to recreation and leisure

Key selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in leisure, open space, recreation planning studies and/or related field.
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing open space and recreation planning and policy projects.
  • Well-developed project management expertise including scoping, planning, managing stakeholders, problem solving, time management, negotiations, budget management and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and leading community engagement processes which maximises community input, draws out diverse perspectives and facilitates collaborative partnerships
  • Experience in preparing and submitting grant applications and demonstrated success in securing grant funding from external sources.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, legislation, design guidelines, innovation and environmental considerations in delivering excellence in recreation and open space outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with initiative and effectively as part of a team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a range of individuals, recreation and community groups, residents, government organisations and funding bodies.
