The role is responsible for undertaking the strategic planning and project delivery, as it relates to community facility provision, including public open space and buildings.  Key deliverables include the development of the community facilities planning framework and guiding documentation, needs assessments, feasibility studies, community infrastructure plans, strategies and land use planning advice. This position involves the project management of the above, negotiation skills, stakeholder engagement, and requires advanced research, analytical and reporting writing skills.

A challenging aspect of the role is completing multiple projects within a dynamic environment that includes changing and competing priorities with tight timeframes.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and regulations, industry issues and trends pertaining to the planning of public open space and community buildings, as it relates to the sports and recreation industry.
  • Advanced level of communication (written and verbal), negotiation and influencing skills in relation to community facilities planning.
  • Proven advanced skills and experience in regards to community and stakeholder engagement as it relates to facility planning and infrastructure provision, including at least one recent high profile or research based project.
  • Advanced research, analytical and problem solving skills in relation to the planning for sport, leisure, recreation and public open space facilities with proven ability to prepare high profile reports and studies that informs the organisations decision-making process.
  • Extensive experience and proven results in the development of facility planning related projects such as infrastructure plans, feasibility studies, masterplans and policy development, including at least one recent high profile or research based project.
  • Advanced knowledge of budget management, business and resource planning and experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology.
  • Significant experience in a similar role within a large and complex organisation, with proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • University Degree or working towards a University Degree in relevant discipline such as Urban and Regional Planning, Sport and Recreation Management, Business or Commerce, or  significant experience in a similar role, as it relates to this community facilities planning.
  • C class Driver’s Licence.
