The Opportunity

The new Recreation and Open Space Department is responsible for the provision and management of over 150 open spaces covering more than 300 hectares of land and is home to a broad range of parks, play spaces and sport and recreation facilities in Maribyrnong.

We are looking for an appropriately qualified Senior Recreation and Open Space Planner to support the work of the Department's Planning team.

Reporting to the Coordinator Recreation and Open Space Planning, this role is integral to supporting and coordinating the development of recreation and open space strategies, policies and plans that will provide the capacity for increased levels of physical activity and for higher quality open spaces across the municipality.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Recreation and Open Space Planner will be responsible for:

  • leading the development of strategies, plans and policies that will guide the future provision and management of Council's recreation and open space assets,
  • implementing, reviewing and renewing Council's Open Space Strategy and the prioritisation of funds collected via Open Space Developer Contributions.
  • advocating for recreation and open space and providing advice and guidance on recreation and open space planning issues across the department and organisation.
