We’re looking for an inspirational leader to manage and develop our popular public aquatics facilities.

As Hamilton Pools Aquatics Director, you’ll head a dedicated lead team including an Operations Manager, Assets and Contract Manager and Customer Experience Manager who help to run Waterworld, our large, international-standard swimming and gym facility, and Gallagher Aquatic Centre, our smaller venue.

This is an exciting time to be joining our pools operation, as we’ve recently completed a significant $10.7M upgrade of Waterworld.

It’s important you’ve managed an aquatics operation of this size before. We are in a period of exciting change, so you’ll need to come with new ideas and the experience to deliver on them while bringing your people along with you.

You won’t be flying solo, though – you’ll be part of Hamilton City Council’s community services team with backing from senior management to make improvements and implement change.

You’ll also be leading a team of experienced aquatics sector professionals who know their business and customers well and have a strong sense of ownership towards the facilities they manage for the people of Hamilton.

Your ability to produce and provide strategic plans and growth for our aquatics operation is crucial to success in this position, as is identifying risks and opportunities.

Hamilton Pools welcomes 400,000 people every year and we need to ensure our processes and plant are compliant and meet regulatory requirements and our customers have a safe, enjoyable experience every time. You’ll be able to demonstrate a solid commitment to health and safety and risk management.

We’re also looking for a change maker with strong commercial nous. You’ll be expected to develop the business through your relationships and networks in the leisure and sports industry. You will develop and lead the Hamilton Pools business plan.

While you’re building on new opportunities, you’ll also be keenly aware of what’s happening back at home base. You’ll have solid processes and procedures in place to keep things humming and you’ll be a great people manager, energetic, reliable and comfortable handling a varied and busy workload.

You will need to be able to work across the Council’s business support units, developing strong links with our Communication and Engagement, People, Safety and Wellness and Finance Units.
