Permanent, Full-time (average of 38 hours per week)

In this position you will use your extensive technical knowledge and experience in the field of parks and environment to assist Parks Services in its service delivery requirements. Reporting directly to the Parks Services Manager you will provide technical advice within the department, to other City departments and to the broader community. This will require participation in advisory groups as the Parks Services’ representative, as well as being the point of contact for technical referrals to the department. You will be required to facilitate the gathering of information from Parks Services officers so as to provide collective responses.

You’ll apply your horticultural and environmental technical knowledge while administering the City’s Greening Plan program, collating information relating to the Parks Improvement Planning works and undertaking research and evaluation of all things horticultural and environmental so that the department is at the forefront of maintaining best practice. You will also have oversight of consultancy type technical contracts such as the City’s ground and surface water monitoring programs and the review of the City’s beach access path network.

In short – this is a diversified role that will touch on all aspects of horticulture and environment.

You must possess a Diploma in Horticulture or tertiary qualification deemed relevant, and a current and valid C Class Drivers Licence.

To be considered for this role you must address the following selection criteria.  You will be required to respond to each criterion below as you lodge your application online. 

  1. Comprehensive knowledge and experience of commercial horticultural practices and technical works.
  2. Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills, including community consultation and negotiation to successful outcomes.
  3. Application of sound time management and organisation skills, to prioritise and manage your daily work activities.
  4. Oversight of technical contracts, incorporating preparation and administration.
  5. Comprehensive computer skills and literacy.
  6. Sound knowledge of tree and plant species identification.
  7. Extensive experience in undertaking objective research, critical analysis and report writing.

We are offering a cash salary of $79,408 per annum and:

  • 11% superannuation with the opportunity to co-contribute a further 4%
