Want to be part of a team that makes a positive contribution to Tāmaki Makaurau, and get more Aucklanders physically active?

Aktive, a charitable trust, has been set up to achieve the vision of Auckland being the world's most active city. We are committed to helping people and communities across Auckland to live more active lives.

As a key strategic partner for both Sport New Zealand and Auckland Council, Aktive invests in organisations and initiatives that will increase and sustain participation and strengthen all parts of the sporting and recreational system. This is underpinned by our community sport strategy: The Auckland Approach to Community Sport – a vision for co-creating a world-class sport system in Auckland.

About the role:

Reporting to the General Manger - Community Sport, this role exists to improve the overall wellbeing of Auckland’s communities by leading in a way that ensures that our built facilities and open spaces provide fit-for-purpose opportunities to enable increased participation. It involves providing leadership and strategic direction on the development and implementation of tools and processes that help organisations to make informed decisions on all aspects of spaces and places for sport, play and active recreation. This requires a collaborative approach that informs collective, evidence-based decisions and investment.

To do this, the Spaces & Places Manager role comprises a number of accountabilities including regional leadership, facility planning, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, resourcing strategies, and developing and implementing innovative, high quality tools and solutions in response to the sector’s needs.

You will be:

  • Solutions focused with solid connections and experience within the development, architecture planning or capital investment disciplines
  • Experienced in facility and capital project development
  • Qualified in Project Management, Sport and/or Recreation Management, Urban Planning or Business Management
  • Experienced at bringing concepts to life – putting words into actions and demonstrating impact
  • A strong communicator, relationship builder and people manager
  • Skilled at using your ability to influence changes in attitudes, behaviours and processes
  • Customer-centric with a ‘can do attitude.’

This role will involve working at various locations throughout Tāmaki Makaurau and require the ability to be flexible with work hours, which will include some evenings and weekends. A competitive salary package, plus a company vehicle, is provided and the organisation is committed to providing excellent professional development opportunities.
