Greg Maddock Memorial Scholarship Program

An exciting new initiative for PLA Vic/Tas Region members was launched last Friday (2 September 2011) as part of a larger member function incorporating the Region’s Annual General Meeting.

The Greg Maddock Memorial Scholarship Program was officially launched by PLA National President, Bruce Fordham. (pictured right) The scholarship will provide all Vic/Tas Region members with an opportunity to further their professional development whilst at the same time enhancing the ongoing development of the parks and recreation industry.

Each year, commencing in 2012, a minimum of two scholarships will be awarded to a maximum funding contribution of $2,500 each. The Scholarship funds can be used to participate in a professional development study tour, meet the cost of education / seminar fees, to undertake a research project, and to progress other learning that is of benefit to the parks and leisure industry.

The scholarship is named in honour of former PLA member, Greg Maddock, who passed away in 2004. Greg was a long time supporter of PLA and made a significant personal and professional contribution to our industry. It was terrific that Greg’s sister, Lyn (pictured left), was able to attend the scholarship launch and say a few words on behalf of Greg’s extended family. PLA Life Member and former colleague, Peter Butler, opened the scholarship launch proceedings by sharing some of his memories of Greg with the 30 guests in attendance.
