NSW/ACT 2012 Awards of Excellence

 

Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) is the leading professional association that represents parks and leisure professionals in Australia. It promotes and supports its members, their vocations and the parks and leisure industry through its leadership in advocacy, training, communication, professional development opportunities and product innovation.

The PLA Awards of Excellence were established to encourage professional development and highlight the very high standard and range of best practice and innovation our industry offers.

The PLA awards are now in their 14th year and we're excited about the great work that is sure to be highlighted again this year through our awards program.

The NSW/ACT Regional Council welcome you to the 2012 Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence for the NSW/ACT Region.

We are pleased to announce that this years Regional Awards will be presented at the 2012 Regional Conference in Coffs Harbour, from the 28th - 30th March 2012. Before National Winners are announced at the Parks and Leisure Australia National Conference in Newcastle from 16th - 19th September.

The NSW/ACT Regional Awards will close for submission on the Friday 2nd March 2012 at 3.00pm.

Award for Events

This award seeks to recognise improved and innovative programs/ projects/ practices/or events which demonstrate significant outcomes to provide greater quality of life opportunities through the delivery of an event and/or festival.

Award for Inclusive and Connected Communities

This award seeks to recognise innovative programs/ projects/ practices/or events which deliver greater opportunities in leisure through the creation and strengthening of Inclusive and Connected Communities.

Award for Leisure Facilities

This award seeks to recognise leisure facilities which demonstrate innovative improvements

Award for Open Space Development

This award seeks to recognise outstanding examples of initiatives that enhance opportunities for people to participate in structured or unstructured outdoor recreation, healthy living or conservation.

Award for Parks

This award seeks to recognise parks that:

• Demonstrate sound and progressive planning, development and management processes;

• Include innovative features that could usefully be applied by others or from which others can learn; and

• Have achieved identifiable improvements to the quality and range of community leisure opportunities.

Award for Sustainable Initiatives

This award seeks to recognise improved and innovative programs/practices/projects or events which demonstrate significant sustainable initiatives and outcomes to provide greater opportunities in leisure through the creation of:

• More sustainable parks, open spaces and community facilities;

• Inclusive and connected communities; and

• Dynamic events and festivals

Frank Stewart Distinguished Service Award

Frank Stewart was the first Federal Government Minister of Recreation. As a member of the then Whitlam Government, he demonstrated an excellent understanding of the importance of community recreation as a lifestyle experience. The values and principles of community recreation that he introduced have been adopted and supported by both State and Local Government leading to its existence today.

Planning Award

The purpose of this award is to recognise quality planning processes in the parks and leisure industry that:

• Reflect sound and progressive principles.

• Have been undertaken over the past 4 years, including full or partial evaluation.

• Include innovative features that could usefully be applied by others or from which others can learn.

• Have achieved identifiable improvements to the quality and range of community leisure opportunities.

Play Space Award of Excellence

This award is given to a project which can demonstrate a unique journey that involves a range of stakeholders, contributes to the development of a sense of ‘place’ for its local community and exhibits design innovation that will inspire others.
